[Digital Today reporter Lee Ho-jung] Google is expanding hands-on programmes for college students and Generation Z using its AI model, Gemini.

Google said on Oct. 15 it will run the pop-up store "Snacky Gemini Campus" from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 at Hanseo Building in Seongsu-dong, Seoul.

The pop-up was created around the concept of a virtual campus in collaboration with the YouTube web variety show "Jeongwaja". It turns into a real space an offline campus idea proposed by the show's host, Kai (카이) of EXO.

Visitors can receive a mobile student ID, visit major booths such as business administration and aerospace engineering and club booths, and complete missions.

At the site, visitors can try features including "Deep Research" for searching and analysing web sources and academic materials, "Canvas" to support document work, "Gemini Notebook" as a learning-assistance function, and an "interactive visualisation tool" that generates simulations based on questions.

Live special lectures will also be held during the pop-up period. On Oct. 30, producer Ko Dong-wan (고동완) will introduce Gen Z content production and idea generation; on Oct. 31, Sudragon of Geekble will introduce how to use Gemini; and on Nov. 1, Oppadu Excel will introduce productivity tips.

Proceeds generated at the pop-up will be donated, under the joint name of Google Gemini and Jeongwaja, to support tuition for low-income college students in South Korea.

Google will also run a career programme for college students. From Oct. 27 to 29, AI research and development and UX design staff from Google DeepMind will travel to Busan, Daejeon and Seoul to hold meetups for students.

The event will share careers at global tech companies, how designers and engineers collaborate on AI, and cases of frontier AI research. Applications will be accepted through Oct. 18.

Google also held a mid-term gathering for the second cohort of its "Google College Student Ambassador" programme on Oct. 12 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Seoul. More than 200 people from 68 universities nationwide took part, and participants presented AI use cases and marketing ideas targeting college students.

A Google official said, "Through the pop-up store and meetings with Google DeepMind researchers, we enabled college students to experience Gemini's usability and AI-related career paths together."
