Naver TV to shut after 14 years as video focus shifts to Clip and Chizizik

Naver will shut its Naver TV video service at 3 p.m. on Sept. 30, ending a platform that began in 2012 as Naver TVcast. From Sept. 3, new sign-ups and channel creation will be blocked. Creator profiles will start moving to short-form service Clip from Sept. 10. Naver said the decision reflects changes in the content environment and a plan to focus capabilities on Clip and Chizizik.

HBO Max tests TikTok-style shorts feed, adds AI conversational search

HBO Max has begun testing a vertical short-form video feed and an AI conversational search feature with some users in the United States. The Shorts icon in the app shows trailers, scene clips and bonus videos in a personalised vertical feed based on viewing history. AI is also used to select clips, with an AI tool analysing films and TV programmes before editors choose final clips. The company plans to expand both tests to more devices and markets.

Netflix teams up with publishers in short-form video content test

Netflix will add short-form video content supplied by brands under BuzzFeed Studios, Conde Nast, Hearst Magazines, People, Tastemade and Penske Media PMX. TechCrunch reported the videos will be available from Aug. 3 to subscribers in the United States, Canada, Britain, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The videos range from 2 to 3 minutes to more than 20 minutes, testing how much Netflix users seek web-centric short-form content.
