Sony Korea said on Thursday it will launch the ECM-AX10, a spatial audio microphone for smartphones that has received 3D audio technology Eclipsa Audio certification.

The company said the ECM-AX10 is equipped with four omnidirectional microphone capsules to capture ambient sound from various directions. It also reproduces direction and distance as well as the atmosphere of a space through Sony spatial audio processing technology.

Viewers can experience vivid sound, as if they were on site, even in videos shot on a smartphone. It is small and light for portability, and can be connected to compatible smartphones via a USB-C port for easy high-quality audio recording. The ECM-AX10 supports three recording modes: Ambisonics, Binaural and Stereo, depending on how content is produced and used.

Ambisonics mode is suitable for producing spatial audio content, while Binaural mode is designed to deliver immersive three-dimensional sound when listened to on headphones. Stereo mode is useful for everyday videos and social media content production.

Using Sony’s dedicated application, users can complete the entire process of producing spatial audio video with just a smartphone, from shooting video to checking clips, simple editing and exporting content with spatial audio applied, without separate complex equipment. The price is 299,000 won.

A Sony Korea official said, "The ECM-AX10 was developed to capture three-dimensional on-site sound and spatial sense with only a smartphone." The official added, "We hope users who record daily life and creators who produce various content will create even more vivid videos with the ECM-AX10."
