AI companion app revenue up 30 percent, Zeta tops growth ranking

AI companion apps, a segment of generative AI focused on emotional interaction with characters, are growing fastest as Korean apps gain ground in global revenue rankings. Sensor Tower said worldwide in-app purchase revenue for AI companion apps rose about 30 percent in the first quarter of 2026 from the previous quarter, the highest growth among generative AI subcategories. Scatter Lab’s Zeta ranked first by revenue growth, while Uif and Melting also placed in the top 10.

Naver Webtoon pays creators 41.5 trillion won over five years, to invest 70 billion won this year

Naver Webtoon held a media briefing in Seoul on March 17 to disclose results of its creator support and its business direction for this year. Kim Yong-su (김용수), appointed Webtoon Entertainment president on March 5, attended an official event for the first time. The company said Webtoon Entertainment distributed a total of 41.5 trillion won to creators from 2021 to 2025 and will invest more than 70 billion won this year to discover works and support creators.

Naver Webtoon launches AI chatbot Character Chat on Japan\'s Line Manga

Naver Webtoon is rolling out a Japanese-language version of its AI-based chat service, Character Chat, on Japan\'s Line Manga, where it is offered under the name Kyara Chato. The service provides chatbots that can hold natural conversations using analysed data on characters\' personalities, speech patterns and work information. As of January, Character Chat had about 6 million cumulative visitors and more than 230 million messages exchanged.
