Waymo robotaxis begin operations at San Francisco International Airport

Waymo has received approval to operate robotaxis at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), TechCrunch reported. Waymo said in a blog post it will begin offering airport rides to selected passengers and plans to expand the service to all customers within months. Pickups and drop-offs will be at the SFO rental car center accessible by AirTrain. Waymo is also under NHTSA investigation over a recent Santa Monica crash involving a child.

Apple buys Israeli audio AI startup Q.AI in $2 billion deal

Apple has acquired Israeli audio AI startup Q.AI, TechCrunch reported on Jan. 29, citing Reuters. Q.AI is developing technology that detects whispered speech and makes audio clearer in noisy environments. Apple has been adding AI features to AirPods, including real-time translation. The Financial Times reported the deal value at about $2 billion, Apple’s second-largest acquisition after its 2014 purchase of Beats Electronics for $3 billion.

Musk's SpaceX and xAI pursue merger

SpaceX and xAI led by Elon Musk (일론 머스크) are pursuing a merger, TechCrunch reported on Jan. 29, citing Reuters. The move is under way ahead of a SpaceX IPO and is seen as part of Musk’s corporate integration strategy. The report said two new entities were recently established in Nevada, boosting the likelihood of a deal. Musk has directed $2 billion investments in xAI from SpaceX and Tesla.
