Nexon to end Crazy Arcade service despite record results as profit-floor strategy reaches long-running games

Nexon will end service for its 25-year-old online game Crazy Arcade on Aug. 13 despite posting record results last year. The move follows a profit-floor policy and portfolio review pushed by Patrick Soderlund, head of Nexon’s Japan unit, after he took office in February. Nexon has also ended Bubble Fighter, halted Project EL and shifted Dungeon & Fighter Mobile’s China operations to Tencent. Nexon says it has no additional plans to end other classic IP services for now.

Subsidies vs tax credits put South Korea chip support at crossroads

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are reviewing investments worth hundreds of trillions of won in semiconductor clusters in the Honam and Chungcheong regions, accelerating debate over how the government should support the industry. The key issue is whether to rely on tax credits for fab construction or shift to direct cash subsidies like rival countries. The government is also pursuing a regional balance strategy, with a semiconductor special law due to take effect in August.

KOSDAQ left behind as penny stock delisting rules loom

KOSDAQ continues to lag South Korea's main market. The KOSPI rose as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix rebounded, while KOSDAQ remained below 1,000 for a fourth straight session. Market participants cite limited foreign and institutional inflows, low trust and concentration in large KOSPI stocks. From July 1, stocks priced below 1,000 won will be subject to delisting conditions, a change seen as a near-term drag but potentially supportive of market confidence.
