The Broadcasting Media and Communications Commission said on Tuesday it will hold the 2026 Media Festival for People with Disabilities over two days from June 24 at the Busan City Hall Media Center.
The theme is "Borderless media, united us." Attendees include the Busan Federation of Organizations of People with Disabilities, the Korea Communications Agency and local broadcasters in Busan.
The event opened with a performance by "Hi-Five Friends," a musical theatre troupe of young people with developmental disabilities. It will screen the film "The Man Who Lives With the King" in a barrier-free environment and hold an exhibition of artwork by artists with developmental disabilities, among others.
The venue is made up of 3 spaces: the "Jangmi Yard," which runs disability awareness experience and exhibition programmes; the "Jangmi Theatre," which features disability-themed content produced by local university students and a barrier-free screening hall; and "Jangmi Live," which introduces and sells products made at standard workplaces for people with disabilities.
Park Dong-joo (박동주), secretary general of the commission, said he hopes the festival will provide an opportunity to respect each other's differences and narrow the media gap. He said it will do its best to create a barrier-free media environment for everyone.
