AI strategy widens gap between Naver and Daum amid sale talk

The fortunes of South Korea’s long-time portal rivals Naver and Daum are diverging as their AI strategies take effect. Naver expanded its “AI Briefing” search features and lifted its market share to 62.86 percent in 2025, according to InternetTrend. Daum’s share slid to 2.94 percent, trailing Microsoft’s Bing, as limited investment after Kakao’s 2014 merger and slow AI response hurt usage and revenue. Industry is speculating Kakao may swap AXZ for Upstage shares.
