Former hedge fund manager and CNBC "Mad Money" host Jim Cramer said he will sell all the Bitcoin he holds, citing the threat from quantum computing. Cointelegraph reported on Aug. 4 local time that Bitcoin rose about 1.7 percent as of Aug. 5 to above $63,500, but was down 27 percent for the year.

Cramer said on the July 31 broadcast that he would sell Bitcoin, citing comments by Arvind Krishna (아르빈드 크리슈나), IBM's chairman and CEO, who appeared on the same programme the day before. Krishna told Cramer that quantum computing could become a threat to cryptocurrencies within the next 3 to 4 years and that he should be on guard.

Some cryptocurrency investors instead took Cramer's selling remarks as a buy signal, because of the so-called "Inverse Cramer" meme. Archie Spencer (아치 스펜서), founder of Grit Trading Academy, said that when Cramer sells, it is time to buy. An anonymous investor known as Bitcoin and Babels said he has increased his holdings whenever Cramer talks about selling.

Views differ on when quantum computing could become a real threat to Bitcoin. Adam Back (아담 백), CEO of Blockstream, said in November 2025 that Bitcoin would not face a meaningful quantum threat for at least 20 to 40 years. Bernstein analysts, in an April report, said Bitcoin has about 3 to 5 years to prepare quantum-resistant security upgrades.
