AMD posted second-quarter results that beat market expectations, but its shares fell in after-hours trading. CNBC reported on Aug. 4 that AMD's second-quarter revenue was $7.69 billion, up 50 percent from a year earlier.

The data centre business drove growth. Data centre revenue was $6.7 billion, up 107 percent from a year earlier.

Net profit was $2.3 billion.

AMD forecast revenue of $13 billion for the current quarter. That tops the estimate of $12.52 billion, but falls short of $14 billion expected by some analysts.

Jean Hu (진 후), AMD's chief financial officer, expects data centre revenue growth to accelerate further in the second half of 2026. The company expects overall revenue growth and profit expansion to continue on that basis.

AMD plans to ship its first rack-scale AI system, Helios, this year to Meta, OpenAI and Oracle, among others. Helios is AMD's first rack-scale product, and it will compete with Nvidia beyond chips and at the system level as well.

Revenue from the client and gaming segment, including CPUs and GPUs for laptops and consoles, rose 6 percent to $3.8 billion. Revenue from the embedded segment, including industrial chips, climbed 19 percent to $977 million.
