Delisting rules tightened; exchange says 230 weak firms could be removed by 2029

The Korea Exchange reported to financial authorities that if delisting requirements are significantly tightened, about 230 companies could face removal from the stock market by 2029, or about 8 percent of listed firms. The Financial Services Commission said it discussed capital market revitalisation and stronger financial infrastructure with related agencies. The exchange plans to raise market-cap and revenue thresholds for KOSPI and KOSDAQ listings and to cut the time to detect and review suspected unfair trading from six months to three.

KOSPI closes above 4,600 to set record high; Kosdaq also rises

South Korea's KOSPI closed up 38.47 points, or 0.84 percent, at 4,624.79 on Jan. 12, setting a record high. The index opened at 4,639.89, rose to 4,652.54, then pared gains and briefly turned lower before recovering. Individuals and foreigners were net sellers, while institutions bought. Samsung Electronics ended slightly lower and SK Hynix slightly higher. The Kosdaq ended up 0.20 percent at 949.81.
