KOSPI breaks 4,800 for first time, 4 percent away from 5,000
South Korea's KOSPI index broke above 4,800 for the first time in intraday trade. At 9:10 a.m. on Jan. 16, it was up 0.14 percent at 4,804.25 after opening 0.43 percent higher at 4,820.66, with gains later easing. The index also set a new intraday record above the previous high of 4,797.55. It has risen for 11 straight sessions, its third-longest streak.

Dunamu signs official partner sponsorship deal with Korea Sports & Olympic Committee
Dunamu, operator of the Upbit cryptocurrency exchange, said on Thursday it has signed an official partner sponsorship agreement with the Korea Sports & Olympic Committee. Upbit plans to produce a cheering video for South Korea’s national team ahead of next month’s Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics. The company also plans to seek cooperation measures including support for developing youth athletes and expanding the base of sports participation.

Musinsa launches 'AI native' entry-level developer recruitment, scraps resumes
South Korean online fashion platform Musinsa said on Jan. 16 it will run MUKIEs, an open recruitment program for entry-level developers with AI capabilities. It is its first large-scale hiring of junior engineers since 2022. The company will use a simplified application process without resumes, with candidates assessed through online and offline coding tests and interviews in February and March. Successful applicants will join within the first quarter, starting with a 6-month internship and potential full-time conversion.
