Samyang Foods said on Sunday it will introduce two ready-to-eat "Buldak Curry" products for Japan from next month.
Buldak Curry was launched in two versions: "medium spicy" for those new to spicy flavors and "spicy" for consumers who prefer heat. Tailored to local food culture, the products come in retort form to improve convenience and require no separate cooking. They are expected to be sold at about 2,000 stores nationwide, including supermarkets, drugstores and discount stores such as Don Quijote, Life Corporation, Aeon and Welcia.
The company expects Buldak Curry to draw strong interest not only from local Japanese consumers but also from Korean tourists visiting Japan.
Samyang Foods has been expanding its business around the "Buldak" brand since establishing its Japan unit in 2019. In 2023, it launched the Japan-only "Yakisoba Buldak Bokkeum Myeon." As of June last year, cumulative sales of Buldak Bokkeum Myeon in Japan exceeded 100 million units.
A Samyang Foods official said the launch of Buldak Curry, following Yakisoba Buldak Bokkeum Myeon and Buldak Potato Chips, has expanded its Japan-tailored lineup into the retort food category. The official said the company plans to continue sustained growth in the Japanese market by developing products that meet local consumer needs.
