Naver and Kakao draw attention with contrasting leadership overhauls
South Korea’s two biggest platform companies, Naver and Kakao, carried out contrasting organisational overhauls at the start of 2026. Naver is expanding leadership by adding three new C-level executives and moving to a six-member team from Feb. 1, aiming to speed decisions across expanding businesses. Kakao is reducing the size and authority of its group control tower, the CA Council, after restructuring cut the number of affiliates to 94 from 147.

IonQ to buy SkyWater Technology for $1.8 billion
IonQ plans to acquire SkyWater Technology for $1.8 billion to bolster its quantum-chip manufacturing capabilities, SiliconANGLE reported. SkyWater, spun off in 2017 from a Cypress Semiconductor division, has focused on making cryogenic control electronics for quantum computers. IonQ aims to accelerate next-generation quantum chip development and plans to unveil a 200,000-qubit processor by 2028. SkyWater will continue its chip manufacturing business for existing customers after the acquisition.

OpenAI is charging advertisers high prices as it moves to introduce an advertising model on ChatGPT, The Information reported on Jan. 26. It is charging about $60 per 1,000 impressions, similar to premium TV inventory, compared with typically under $20 on Meta’s social media apps. Ads are expected to appear under answers. OpenAI plans to generate $11 billion in revenue from free ChatGPT users by end-2027.
