Shinhan Bank said on April 2 it held a launch ceremony for an overseas medical volunteer team at Seoul National University Dental Hospital on April 1 and delivered 100 million won in sponsorship for medical service activities in Uzbekistan.

Shinhan Bank CEO Jeong Sang-hyeok (정상혁) and Seoul National University Dental Hospital Director Lee Yong-moo (이용무) attended the ceremony.

The team will consist of 23 people, including Shinhan Bank employees and Seoul National University Dental Hospital medical staff. It is scheduled to provide medical support at a children's hospital and a local hospital in the Tashkent area of Uzbekistan from April 6 to 14 for a total of 7 nights and 9 days.

Key activities include cleft lip and palate surgery for 25 children from low-income households selected by the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, and denture prosthetic treatment for 20 low-income elderly people, including ethnic Koreans in Uzbekistan and Uzbeks.

Shinhan Bank and Seoul National University Dental Hospital have continued overseas medical volunteering activities since 2008 in places including Cambodia and Uzbekistan. Through last year, they provided free cleft lip and palate surgery and dental treatment to a total of 3,965 people.

Jeong said, "I hope this medical volunteering will provide practical help to vulnerable groups in the local community." He added, "We will continue cooperating with Seoul National University Dental Hospital and carry out our social responsibility."
