Robot industry to shift to general-purpose AI models, General Intuition says

The robot industry is expected to move beyond developing separate AI for each device and reorganise around large, general-purpose AI models that can be applied across many robots. Robot AI startup General Intuition said the current approach of building different models for each robot is likely to be replaced over time by general-purpose foundation models. It said it trained a model using millions of hours of video game data and later fine-tuned it with minutes of real robot data.

KB Financial sponsors South Korea\'s first Humanoid Challenge

KB Financial Group has sponsored the 2026 Humanoid Challenge, a competition focused on proving humanoid robot technologies. KB Financial said it provided a total prize fund of 30 million won for the event, which was hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and co-organised by two robotics institutions. Teams demonstrated precision work capabilities and autonomous control. Seoul National University’s ROBI team won the top prize.

KB Financial Group will sponsor RoboCup 2026 Incheon, an AI and robotics international competition described as the world’s largest. It will run an on-site space where visitors can experience AI and robot technologies and will support programmes aimed at growing the robot industry ecosystem. The event opens on July 2 at Songdo Convensia in Incheon and runs through July 6, with teams from 45 countries and about 3,000 participants.
