Ethereum Foundation sets Dec 2029 target for quantum resistance across mainnet

The Ethereum Foundation has laid out a roadmap to make the entire Ethereum mainnet quantum-resistant by December 2029. The target is to convert all three layers of Ethereum L1 — execution, consensus and data — to a quantum-resistant structure. The timeline is set on the assumption that a quantum-computing “Q-day” could arrive as early as 2030. Ethereum aims to implement its next major upgrade, Glamssterdam, in December and then deliver full quantum resistance through five further upgrades.

G7 urges rapid preparations for quantum computing threat; bitcoin, ethereum also on alert

A G7 cybersecurity working group urged governments and companies to immediately begin shifting to post-quantum cryptography, warning that technology threatening existing public-key systems is advancing faster than expected. It highlighted the risk of attacks that harvest encrypted data now and decrypt it later. The EU has set timelines for migration. Bitcoin is considering BIP-360, while Ethereum plans broader upgrades. AWS breaks ground on new subsea cable linking U.S. and Japan, to launch in 2029

Amazon Web Services has unveiled Sta\'O\'Nuk, a new Pacific subsea cable linking Japan and the United States, targeting operations in 2029. The 20-pair fibre-optic system will provide 420 Tbps of bandwidth. AWS is focusing on diversifying landing points to reduce exposure to natural disasters, ship-related damage, fishing interference and geopolitical tensions. It also outlined multilayer security and risk-reduction measures for construction and physical access.
