Tron's post-quantum cryptography has gone live on its testnet.

Cointelegraph, a blockchain media outlet, reported on Oct. 10 that Tron founder Justin Sun (저스틴 선) said on X, formerly Twitter, that it is ready to apply quantum resistance to the mainnet at any time.

Sun said it is closely tracking developments in quantum computing and artificial intelligence (AI), and that it is ready to introduce quantum resistance to the mainnet at any time. Stressing its commitment to protecting user assets, he said Tron will be one of the few major blockchains with quantum resistance before Q-Day. Q-Day refers to the point when quantum computers reach a level capable of breaking current security standards.

The core of the announcement is that Tron has moved beyond the research stage to a trial-operation stage. Applying it to the testnet is a process to verify technical stability and operational feasibility before reflecting it on the mainnet. Sun's remarks underscore that Tron is in a position to push quickly through to a mainnet switch if needed.

The move aligns with a broader challenge across the blockchain industry. Developers note that if sufficiently powerful quantum computers emerge, elliptic-curve cryptography used to secure Bitcoin, Ethereum and many blockchain networks could be rendered ineffective. Major projects are therefore reviewing ways to shift account systems and wallet security to quantum-resistant methods.

This year, responses have also taken more concrete shape in the Bitcoin and Ethereum communities. A Strategy-led consortium pledged $15 million to support research into quantum security for Bitcoin. The Ethereum Foundation released a proposal to migrate accounts to post-quantum cryptography, and Algorand announced a plan to introduce post-quantum accounts by 2027.

New approaches are also emerging in wallet security. AmericanFortress, a blockchain security company, released a cryptographic design in July that it said could prepare for future quantum attacks without changing existing wallet addresses. The design highlighted that protection can be added without users moving funds or replacing keys. The proposal was released as a technical document on a cryptography e-print repository and has not yet undergone peer review.

Tron's announcement is being read as a signal that it could bring forward the timing for applying it to the mainnet. For now, what has been confirmed is limited to the testnet rollout and comments about readiness for a mainnet transition. The next points to watch are the timing of an actual mainnet rollout, the scope of application and the impact on existing user assets and account structures.

TRON's post-quantum cryptography is now live on testnet. We're closely tracking progress in quantum computing and AI, and we're ready to bring quantum resistance to mainnet at any time. We're committed to keeping user assets secure, and TRON is set to be one of the few major blockchains that is quantum-resistant before Q-Day. $TRX
