Oracle said on Tuesday it has released Java 27, the latest version of the Java programming language and development platform.

The company said Java 27 includes thousands of improvements spanning performance, stability, security and productivity.

Java 27 enhances post-quantum cryptography (PQC) capabilities through hybrid key exchange for TLS 1.3, supporting organisations in securing safer communications in preparation for the post-quantum era.

Oracle also introduced early access (EA) for JDK 28 to offer a preview of future innovations such as Project Valhalla.

It also announced integrated updates across the Java ecosystem and the Oracle Java Verified Portfolio (JVP). The updates include Helidon 27 for lightweight microservices, JavaFX 27 for client applications providing a rich user experience, and Oracle Jipher 20, which is included in JVP and supports customers deploying Java applications in environments regulated by FIPS 140.

Georges Saab (조지 사브), Oracle senior vice president for the Java Platform division and chair of the OpenJDK board, said, "For more than 30 years, Java has helped developers build powerful, reliable and secure applications." He said Java 27 carries on that significance by providing a stable foundation for modern enterprise workloads and delivering innovative AI and post-quantum cryptography capabilities. He said Oracle has achieved an important milestone in post-quantum cryptography with Java 27 and is executing a roadmap to provide corresponding features in JDK releases that offer long-term support. This will help customers protect core applications and data while minimising service disruptions, he said.
