AI hacking spurs shift in corporate security spending priorities
As AI hacking spreads, companies are not only increasing cybersecurity budgets but also changing spending priorities, benefiting some newer security technologies while sidelining parts of the traditional stack. Large firms are raising outlays for tools to monitor employee AI use, find vulnerabilities ahead of hackers and speed patching. Some are cutting spending on traditional vulnerability management, log collection and penetration testing. Gartner forecasts strong growth in the AI security market through 2028.

OpenAI says enterprise security must shift to agent-centric model in AI era
OpenAI warned that open-weight AI models have relatively low guardrails and, after fine-tuning and additional computation, can gain cyberattack capabilities approaching frontier models, requiring safeguards against misuse. Wana Tun, an applied AI security specialist at OpenAI, said malicious actors could fine-tune such models to cause significant harm. She said AI-driven cyberattacks are becoming more autonomous and called for enterprises to shift defenses toward AI agents to speed detection, verification and patch creation.

Gartner sees AI security market growing 69 percent next year
Gartner forecast on Sept. 1 that the AI security market will reach about $4.783 billion in 2027, up about 69 percent from 2026, and expand to about $7.7 billion in 2028. It said attacks exploiting access control weaknesses and prompt injection will account for more than half of successful cyberattacks targeting AI agents by 2029. Gartner expects rising adoption of AI security tools across application security, usage control, governance platforms and gateways.
