The Financial Security Institute will strengthen its emergency response system to prepare for cyber attacks targeting the financial sector during the Chuseok holiday period. It will also expand 24-hour integrated security monitoring for key cyber threats, including attacks that abuse artificial intelligence and security vulnerabilities.

The institute said on Tuesday it will reinforce its financial security emergency response system from Sept. 24 to 27 to ensure stable operation of financial services during the Chuseok holiday period.

The cyber crisis alert is currently at the "Attention" level, but it plans to maintain a response posture equivalent to the "Caution" level during the holiday period.

It will run an emergency duty system centered on officials such as the head of the Security Monitoring Center. If a security incident occurs, it plans to respond quickly by sharing the situation with related agencies such as the Financial Services Commission.

It will also strengthen monitoring of cyber threats. It will upgrade detection criteria for the latest threats, including attacks that exploit security vulnerabilities using authentication information exposed externally and attempts to infect systems with malware that induces user manipulation.

If a security incident occurs, it will immediately begin an investigation and, based on the analysis results, guide financial companies on required actions.

It will also use its in-house attack surface management service to inspect potential risk factors such as externally exposed assets and security vulnerabilities in the financial sector.

Park Sang-won (박상원), head of the Financial Security Institute, said, "With recent cases confirmed of cyber attacks abusing AI technology, the threat landscape is changing, making it important to strengthen the monitoring and response system." He added, "We will ensure that anomaly detection and initial response can be carried out swiftly."
