Tech Insight: Ambitious scenarios from the great unbundling of intelligence

Foundation Capital partner Jaya Gupta (자야 굽타) says large language models have bundled many functions into a single model, but that bundling is beginning to unwind. She describes a “great unbundling of intelligence” driven by differences in compute needs, performance, latency and cost across capabilities. Gupta says agents amplify the impact of small cost and latency gaps across many steps. She argues judgement models, rerankers and separate search services can replace expensive general models for routine work.

Jeonbuk physical AI pilot lab tests autonomous factory operations

Jeonbuk National University is testing technology that adds autonomous judgement to automated factories at its Physical AI Manufacturing Technology Pilot Lab in Jeonju. The 846-square-metre facility links robot arms, autonomous mobile robots, sensors and machine tools to share production plans and detect abnormalities. It can recommend responses, with plans to develop technology to directly adjust equipment and optimise multiple processes. The programme will expand through 2030 with central government funding.

NSR to hold briefing on commercialisation-ready cybersecurity technologies on Aug 12

The National Security Research Institute (NSR) will hold its NSR Connect U 2026 briefing on Aug. 12 from 1:30 p.m. at COEX in Seoul. The event is aimed at promoting the transfer and commercialisation of NSR’s cybersecurity technologies and linking research outcomes with industry demand. The Korea Technology Finance Corporation, Korea Science & Technology Holdings and Seoul Technopark will participate. NSR will present seven technologies, including virtual-network cyber training systems and Android app analysis.
