SKT steps up scale-up of proprietary AI to multimodal and agents

SK Telecom has passed a second-stage evaluation of the government’s project for a proprietary AI foundation model. The assessment reflected industrial applicability and impact on South Korea’s AI ecosystem. SKT plans to expand its technology scope in the next evaluation to models with up to trillion-level parameters and to multimodal and AI agent areas. It has developed the A.X K1 and expanded to A.X K2, and it is building derived vision and speech models and applying them in manufacturing and defence.

Samsung, LG Electronics provide free inspection and repair for flooded appliances in Geoje

Samsung Electronics Service and LG Electronics are dispatching special service teams to Geoje in South Gyeongsang Province, where damage from heavy rain has been concentrated. Each company has set up a mobile service base and is providing free cleaning, inspections and repairs for flooded home appliances. Samsung is also operating a bus equipped to clean and dry flooded mobile phones. LG is running a visiting service in Geoje and Tongyeong and using dedicated vehicles to support repairs.

South Korea runs joint drill to check response to GPS jamming

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT conducted a simulated drill on Aug. 19 to check joint civil, government and military readiness for GPS signal jamming during the 2026 Ulchi exercise period. The scenario assumed simultaneous jamming at two sites in Paju and a moving jammer, including one approaching a key national energy facility. Authorities reviewed initial response steps, dispatched tracking and strike teams, and implemented safety measures for aviation, maritime and telecom services.
