[Digital Today reporter Hyun-woo Chu (추현우)] Apple’s next MacBook Pro, expected to be unveiled in October, may feature an OLED display, a touchscreen and the removal of the notch. On Sept. 28, IT outlet 9to5Mac reported that some have also raised the possibility that the product could be called “MacBook Ultra.”

The biggest change is cited as the OLED display. iPhones have already used OLED, and the iPad Pro adopted tandem OLED in 2024. If the new MacBook Pro uses OLED, it could offer deeper blacks and improved contrast. It could also help battery life.

Touchscreen support was also cited as a likely change. Apple has previously indicated it does not believe Macs need touchscreens, but the new MacBook Pro could become the first Mac to support touch. macOS 27 was reported to include clues suggesting such a change.

Still, macOS’ basic input method is expected to remain the same. macOS is still designed around the trackpad and keyboard, and touch is likely to be used as a complement.

The front design is also expected to change. Apple introduced the notch in its 2021 MacBook Pro redesign and later applied the same element to the MacBook Air. The new MacBook Pro may adopt a hole-punch camera cutout instead of a notch.

macOS could also add Dynamic Island. It would integrate the camera cutout naturally into the interface, as on the iPhone.
