Kazakhstan to sell gold, cut share by 3 points as U.S. Treasury yields surge

Kazakhstan\'s central bank plans to cut gold\'s share of its foreign exchange reserves to 75% from 78% by year-end as surging U.S. Treasury yields boost the appeal of dollar assets. The country holds 386 tonnes of gold after halting sales in February 2025. The bank will execute about half of the planned reduction through options sales and the rest via spot sales, with volumes potentially affected if gold prices fall below $4,000 an ounce.

South Korea science ministry holds Global ICT Leadership Forum to seek AI cooperation

South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT discussed cooperation in AI and digital fields with senior overseas delegations. The ministry held the 12th Global ICT Leadership Forum with the National Information Society Agency at a hotel in Seoul. Delegations from eight countries including Vietnam, the Philippines and Egypt attended, along with about 100 people from related organisations and AI companies. Vice Minister Ryu Je-myeong said countries should build a global digital order suited to the AI era.

Shinhan Financial to expand financial cooperation with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, strengthen Central Asia network

Shinhan Financial Group is expanding its Central Asia financial network by signing agreements with government and state-owned financial institutions in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The group said it signed deals on Sept. 14 to 15 with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade and Kazakhstan’s state development finance group Baiterek. In Uzbekistan, the parties will pursue up to $200 million in funding support and discuss joint investment projects and project financing.
