Danal has introduced Vietnam's simple payment platform ZaloPay to a foreign students' tuition payment service at South Korean universities with Shinhan Bank. It aims to improve convenience for international students by expanding payment methods to include ZaloPay alongside WeChat Pay and PayPal.

Danal said on Wednesday it has officially introduced Vietnam's simple payment platform ZaloPay to the foreign students' tuition service with Shinhan Bank.

ZaloPay is the simple payment platform of Vietnamese messenger Zalo, which has about 80,000,000 users. With the service introduction, Vietnamese students and parents can pay tuition by QR code in the Zalo or ZaloPay app without visiting a bank branch.

The Danal-Shinhan Bank foreign students' tuition service supports payment methods familiar to international students such as WeChat Pay and PayPal. It is currently operated in partnership with more than 94 South Korean universities.

Danal expects the introduction of ZaloPay to absorb demand for payments by Vietnamese students. It said it has expanded payment coverage for major international student nationalities by adding a Vietnamese payment method alongside China's WeChat Pay and global PayPal.

Danal is also reviewing linking ZaloPay with QR payments at offline merchants and a prepaid card for foreigners planned for launch, in addition to tuition payments. It also plans to step up, in stages, links with local payment methods in emerging countries for international students such as Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Nepal and Myanmar.

A Danal official said most foreign students in South Korea can now pay tuition using simple payment infrastructure in their home countries. The official said the number of users and partner universities is expected to keep rising as the service is directly linked to local bank accounts.
