BYD probes distrust of Tesla FSD with promise of full compensation for self-driving accidents
Tesla has delayed plans to unveil its next-generation Roadster again, pushing the schedule to after August as development linked to SpaceX thruster technology takes longer than expected. The company is also pursuing sensor reliability, including a patent for a camera system that cleans its own lens. Debate continues over the safety of unsupervised driving and compensation for self-driving accidents, as rivals such as BYD, XPeng and Rivian accelerate development and responsibility frameworks.

Apple to offer free cloud AI to small developers to lower AI infrastructure cost barriers
Apple will provide foundation models to small developers with fewer than 2 million cumulative App Store downloads without charging cloud API fees, TechCrunch reported. The benefit applies to models running on Private Cloud Compute. Apple said infrastructure costs should not block exploring ideas. The 2 million threshold is similar to its Small Business Program. Apple will expand its foundation model framework to image input and server model support.

Waymo, Tesla were preceded by a car that hit 180 kph in autonomous driving in 1995
When people think of self-driving cars, Tesla or Waymo often come to mind, but the technology’s roots go back to the 1970s. One early test vehicle was developed in Japan in 1977 and drove using rooftop cameras. German research later achieved higher-speed autonomous runs and long-distance tests, including a 1995 Mercedes trip that was 95 percent self-driven at up to 180 kph. U.S. universities and DARPA competitions also pushed progress.
