AI costs are starting to surpass payroll at some companies
As spending on AI surges, computing costs at some companies are starting to exceed employee payroll, Axios reported. Nvidia applied deep learning vice president Bryan Catanzaro said his team’s computing expenses far surpass staff costs. The Information reported that Uber’s chief technology officer said rising token costs burned through its full 2026 AI budget in four months. Gartner forecasts 2026 global IT spending will rise 13.5 percent to $631 billion.
