JPMorgan deploys $5 billion into U.S. defence industry, bets on robot factory and hypersonic missiles

JPMorgan Chase has deployed $5 billion a year after launching a startup investment programme aimed at strengthening U.S. security and industrial supply chains. The bank reached half of its planned $10 billion investment over 10 years in the first year and left open the possibility of expanding the amount. The programme targets defence, advanced manufacturing and key supply chains, and is also widening to advanced technology, pharmaceuticals and health tech.

Dell unveils two rugged laptops for industrial sites rated IP66 and 1.8-metre drop

Dell Technologies on Oct. 19 introduced two new rugged laptops for industrial and public safety sites, the Dell Pro Rugged 13 Extreme and Dell Pro Rugged 14, and said both are already on sale this month. Both use Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors with up to 50 TOPS NPU performance. The 13-inch full-rugged model is rated IP66 and tested for 1.8-metre drops, while the 14-inch semi-rugged model is rated IP53 and tested for 0.91-metre drops.

Inside the $400,000 helmet used by F-35 pilots

An advanced helmet used by F-35 fighter pilots is drawing attention for functions that go beyond protection. The third-generation Helmet Mounted Display System links the aircraft’s sensors to the visor to display flight and combat information and provide an augmented-reality view that can appear to see through the airframe. A 2015 U.S. Air Force estimate put the price at about $400,000 each. Development faced early technical and safety issues before improvements.
