[DigitalToday reporter Yoonseo Lee] Canadian billionaire and gold advocate Frank Giustra (프랭크 지우스트라) strongly criticised a forecast that bitcoin could reach $200,000.

On June 8, blockchain outlet U.Today reported that Giustra responded on X, formerly Twitter, to optimism that bitcoin could rise to $150,000 to $200,000 in 2026, saying, "The existence of aliens is more plausible."

The argument began with a post by crypto market commentator Chris Millas (크리스 밀라스). Millas wrote that people believe in aliens but do not believe forecasts that bitcoin could reach $150,000 to $200,000 in 2026. Giustra shot back that there is more evidence of aliens than of bitcoin reaching $200,000.

Giustra has also recently drawn a line against highly bullish bitcoin forecasts. He strongly criticised Cathie Wood (캐시 우드), chief executive of ARK Invest, after she put bitcoin's base-case scenario for 2030 at $730,000 and the bull-case scenario at $1.5 million. Wood defined bitcoin as a key insurance tool against currency depreciation, but Giustra called it "embarrassing" and said bitcoin would also not reach $1 million.

The core of the exchange lies less in the price forecast itself than in the clash between bitcoin bulls and sceptics. Giustra is a leading gold advocate and has consistently stressed the value of physical gold over digital assets. Some in the market, by contrast, continue to expect that bitcoin could establish itself as an alternative asset to respond to macro uncertainty and currency value erosion.

As context cited to support Giustra's alien comparison, examples were also mentioned of the U.S. government and military officially dealing with unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAP. The U.S. Department of Defense in 2020 released 3 videos filmed by U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornets between 2004 and 2015. The 2004 Nimitz encounter was introduced as an incident in which U.S. Navy pilot David Fravor (데이비드 프레이버) directly witnessed a "Tic Tac"-shaped aircraft off the coast of Southern California.

Giustra's remarks, however, are largely a rebuttal aimed at high-end bitcoin forecasts. The market continues to float highly bullish price targets for 2026 and 2030, but Giustra does not agree and continues to contrast investment narratives for gold and bitcoin. This remark is also seen as reaffirming his existing stance on long-term high-end bitcoin forecasts.

The episode again shows the gap between optimism and scepticism over bitcoin price forecasts. Bitcoin supporters stress the potential for long-term gains, citing institutional inflows and concerns over currency depreciation, but gold advocates like Giustra still question bitcoin's intrinsic value and highly bullish forecasts. As a result, the market is expected to focus on whether bitcoin can broaden its position as an alternative store of value after 2026, or whether excessive price expectations will be corrected first.
