Tesla’s Cybercab launch event in Austin on Sept. 3 could include a plan to deploy more than 1,000 robotaxis, but the key test will be how many vehicles are actually operating on public roads a month later. The two-seat Cybercab was first shown in October 2024, and the event may resemble a reintroduction. Expectations include integration into Tesla’s robotaxi service, possible expansion to more cities, and an unsupervised format using the same FSD system.

Waymo is pushing to launch a robotaxi service in Munich, aiming for a commercial ride-hailing rollout by late 2027. The company plans to map roads with human-driven cars, then conduct autonomous tests with safety operators before moving to driverless trials. Waymo said it is working with Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority and local authorities to secure permits and approvals. The move would be Waymo’s first entry into the EU.
