Meta\'s open-source Llama effectively abandoned; what are developers\' alternatives?
Meta has effectively halted development of its open-source AI model Llama and shifted strategy to the proprietary Muse Spark model, The News Stack reported. Meta said it will keep providing existing Llama models as open source, but did not mention future development. Muse Spark was built from scratch on different infrastructure and is cloud-only, with no weight downloads or self-hosting. Llama had about 1.2 billion downloads a year ago.

Meta shares fall despite 33 percent revenue growth as it presses on with aggressive AI investment
Meta posted first-quarter revenue and net profit above market expectations, but its shares fell more than 5 percent in after-hours trading after it announced plans to expand investment in AI data centres, The Wall Street Journal reported. Revenue rose 33 percent from a year earlier to $56.3 billion and net profit was $26.8 billion. Meta forecast second-quarter revenue of $58.0 billion to $61.0 billion and plans capital spending of up to $145.0 billion this year.

Zuckerberg steps up AI race, resumes coding beside researchers
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has moved his desk next to the company’s AI researchers and has begun coding himself, according to reports. As competition in generative AI intensifies, Zuckerberg is getting more deeply involved in development and in reshaping Meta’s AI business. Meta President Dina Powell McCormick said he sits in the AI lab with Alexandr Wang and Nat Friedman and codes all day.
