Meta Platforms plans to launch within weeks a consumer version of OpenClaw, a conversational AI agent it refers to internally as Hatch, The Information reported on Aug. 24, citing internal documents.

Meta is also preparing a new AI model called Watermelon, aiming to unveil it in October, The Information said.

Hatch is trained to access websites including DoorDash, Etsy, Reddit, Yelp and Outlook. Based on an early prototype, Hatch also has a customized dashboard showing tools or functions created by the agent.

According to internal documents, Hatch is expected to launch in late August or early September.

Meta is also preparing a platform in WhatsApp that lets users connect with and chat with other AI agents. It plans to start a pilot service for a small group of users this week. Meta declined to respond to questions about it.

The report said Hatch is part of an AI investment monetisation strategy being pursued by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg (마크 저커버그). Meta is seeking to diversify its revenue structure, which is weighted toward advertising, through it.

Meta is reviewing a plan to divide Hatch pricing into multiple tiers based on usage limits. The premium monthly subscription fee is up to $199.99.

Meta has in recent months accelerated the rollout of AI models. In April, Meta unveiled Muse Spark, the first model released by Meta Superintelligence Labs. The model is a multimodal reasoning model tailored for tool use and multi-agent operations.

In July, it released Muse Spark 1.1, an improved version focused on coding, computer use and agent tasks. In August, it unveiled Muse Spark 1.2 and Muse Code, a coding agent that handles software development tasks. It has not yet been confirmed whether Watermelon will be part of the Muse line or a standalone model, The Information said.

Meta is also again emphasising its open-source AI strategy. Earlier this month, it unveiled a relatively small open model called Muse Glimmer. Zuckerberg also published a post advocating expanded access to open-source AI.

Meta said it would also release an open-weight version of Muse Spark 1.2. Meta is pursuing a dual strategy of developing proprietary models and agents that compete with OpenAI and Anthropic, while also providing open-source models.
