Meta has acquired Maltbook, an AI agent social network, TechCrunch reported on March 10 local time.
Maltbook is a platform that uses OpenClaw to let AI agents talk to one another and has a structure similar to Reddit.
With the deal, Maltbook co-founders Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr will join Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL). The terms were not disclosed, but Meta plans to use the acquisition to strengthen interactions among AI agents and provide new AI experiences.
Maltbook supports AI agents communicating in natural language through popular messaging services such as iMessage, Discord, Slack and WhatsApp. But controversy grew as fake AI posts spread, and some users were found to have caused confusion by impersonating AI. Security experts pointed to vulnerabilities in Maltbook and said anyone could write posts while posing as AI.
Meta did not spell out how it will integrate Maltbook into its AI projects, but it is seen using it to strengthen communication among AI agents. Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth said he was more interested in the way humans hack the network than in AI agents talking like humans.
