Webtoon Entertainment Q1 operating loss 11.7 billion won, narrows 69.8 percent

Webtoon Entertainment, Naver Webtoon’s U.S. parent, said its first-quarter operating loss narrowed 69.8 percent from a year earlier on improved gross profit and cost controls. Revenue fell 1.5 percent to $320.87 million, but rose 0.2 percent on a constant-currency basis. The operating loss was $8.03 million and net loss fell 60 percent to $8.80 million. Paid content revenue edged up, while ad and IP business revenue declined.

Epic develops extraction shooter using Disney characters, report says

Epic Games is developing an extraction shooter using Disney intellectual property, and it could be unveiled as early as November, a report said. Engadget said it is seen internally as the most promising of three Disney-related projects at Epic. The game is described as similar to Arc Raiders, with players gathering resources and escaping, but featuring Disney characters fighting enemies. It is unclear whether it will be standalone or a Fortnite mode.

OpenAI will shut its short-form video app Sora six months after its launch, CNBC reported on March 24. The company is streamlining non-core businesses to cut costs and prepare for an IPO, CNBC said. Sora surged in popularity after its release, reaching 1 million downloads in five days, but OpenAI opted to focus on core businesses rather than absorb cloud costs. Plans to integrate web, ChatGPT and Codex apps will continue.
