Webtoon Entertainment, the parent company of Naver Webtoon, said on Thursday it had finalised a strategic cooperation agreement with The Walt Disney Company.
With the deal completed, Disney confirmed an about 2 percent equity investment in Webtoon Entertainment. The two companies will use the partnership to develop and operate a completely new digital comics platform.
The new platform will offer past comics from Disney's broad portfolio, including Marvel, Star Wars and 20th Century Studios. It will also provide original webtoon stories curated by Webtoon Entertainment.
The viewing options will support both a vertical scroll format optimised for mobile and a traditional comics format. The two companies are also pursuing reworks of existing titles and development of new original series based on Disney franchises.
