Disney is working with TikTok to bring Disney-related fan content into the Disney Plus (Disney+) app. TechCrunch reported on Aug. 5 that the companies plan to start a pilot program in the United States in the coming months and then expand to other markets.

Under the partnership, TikTok fan videos themed on Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars will appear in Disney+’s short-form feed, “Vurts.”

Disney has been increasing the amount and variety of content since launching Vurts a few months ago.

Disney also operates the newly launched “Disney Creator Ambassador Program.” TikTok creators can access Disney’s content library and will receive opportunities for compensation, greater exposure, participation in exclusive events and career opportunities.

The partnership reflects a trend in which streaming platforms compete with social platforms for user attention. Netflix, HBO Max and Prime Video have also introduced short-form features. Tubi and Peacock also collaborated with TikTok creators to produce original long-form content for their platforms.

Disney said operating profit from its subscription video-on-demand business more than doubled to $712 million from $329 million a year earlier, based on its fiscal third-quarter results.
