South Korea to unveil AI Basic Society plan for all by year end
South Korea\'s government will draw up an \"Artificial Intelligence Basic Society Plan for All\" and disclose it within this year. The National AI Strategy Committee and the Basic Society Committee held a joint workshop in Seoul on June 9 with about 40 participants, including officials from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. They reviewed AI\'s impact across society and discussed universal access, narrowing gaps and strengthening safety nets.

South Korea steps up cross-government response to rising teen suicides with AI monitoring, stronger counseling
South Korea is pushing a cross-government package to respond to teen suicides, strengthening mental health support in and out of schools, managing harmful online information and expanding links to counseling and treatment. The Education Ministry said teen suicide deaths rose to 396 in 2025 from 273 in 2016, while psychiatric visits among those aged 0 to 19 increased to an estimated 431,000 in 2025. The plan sets targets to cut suicide rates by 2030 and 2035.

MSIT to expand advanced technology demonstrations from closed-facility safety to infectious disease response
South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT will expand demonstrations of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, intelligent quarantine air-conditioning coordination, bio interfaces and smart mobility to address social issues closely tied to daily life. The ministry said it will 추진 4 new projects under its 2026 programme to support wider adoption of technology-based demonstrations. The new projects include 2 single-type and 2 integrated-type tasks, with annual support of 800 million won and 1.4 billion won respectively over 2 to 3 years.
