Woori Financial Group received a presidential citation for supporting police officers who died or were injured in the line of duty and their bereaved families.

Woori Financial said on Oct. 22 that its Woori Finance Foundation won the presidential citation on Oct. 21, marking the 81st Police Day.

The award recognised the foundation’s contribution to stabilising livelihoods and improving welfare for police officers and bereaved families through its “Woori Hero” support programme.

Woori Finance Foundation has run support programmes since 2022 for uniformed public servants who have devoted themselves to the country and their families.

From 2022 to 2025, it paid a total of 900 million won in support funds to 220 police officers and bereaved families. This year, it plans to raise an additional 200 million won to support families of police officers who died in the line of duty and about 70 police officers injured in the line of duty.

The support has been expanded beyond police to include soldiers and firefighters. Through programmes such as the “Woori Financial Patriotic Scholarship,” a “Family Healing Camp,” and support for children’s growth-related items, the foundation helped a cumulative 1,700 uniformed public servants and their families through last year and is providing additional support to about 1,000 people this year. It also runs an annual “Woori Hero Remembrance Campaign” to raise awareness of the dedication of uniformed public servants.

Lim Jong-ryong (임종룡), chairman of Woori Finance Foundation, said uniformed heroes, including police officers devoted to protecting the lives and safety of the public, are a strong pillar of society. He said the foundation will continue to provide practical support for heroes and their families.
