AI investment boom drives ICT exports to record $75.15 billion in September

South Korea\'s information and communications technology exports jumped to a record $75.15 billion in September, up 195.8 percent from a year earlier, as global AI investment expanded. Imports rose 55.3 percent to $21.43 billion, producing a $53.71 billion trade surplus. AI data centres revive HDDs as Toshiba invests 60 billion yen in Philippines

Toshiba will expand its HDD production facilities in the Philippines as demand for large-capacity storage surges with the expansion of AI data centres. The company plans to invest about 60 billion yen and aims to nearly double annual production capacity for AI and cloud HDDs by fiscal 2027, compared with fiscal 2025 on a storage-capacity basis. Toshiba also plans higher-capacity products and broader automation to cut staffing needs and raise yields.
