Global OTT rules shift as bundling gains momentum
Bundling that packages rival companies’ content on a single streaming platform is gaining pace in the global OTT industry. Amazon has enabled Prime Video users to subscribe to services such as HBO Max and Apple TV via its app, and YouTube and Roku are stepping up efforts toward one-stop TV viewing. YouTube will bundle NBCUniversal’s Peacock for Premium subscribers. Netflix has also moved to integrate France’s TF1 and is discussing options to offer Peacock and Fox One.

Roku raises streaming hardware prices by up to $50
Roku has raised prices for its entire lineup of streaming hardware products. The Verge reported on July 24 that the cheapest Roku HD Streaming Stick increased to $39.99 from $29.99. The price increases apply to other Roku devices as well, with some models rising by as much as $50. Roku is running promotions that allow some products to be bought at prior price levels.

Fox to buy Roku for $22 billion, combining news, sports and streaming
Fox will acquire Roku in a cash-and-stock deal valued at about $22 billion. The boards of both companies have already approved the transaction, TechCrunch reported on Sunday. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027. Fox aims to combine Fox News, its sports channels, its free ad-supported streaming service Tubi and Roku’s connected TV platform, seeking to expand its advertising precision and reduce reliance on traditional broadcasting.
