U.S. debates regulation as data center boom pressures power bills
If all data centres permitted in the United States through 2025 begin operating, annual electricity use is estimated to rise to 358.8 terawatt hours from 224.3 TWh, up 50 percent from last year’s estimate. The rise is led by hyperscale facilities needed for artificial intelligence. Analysts warn grid and generation investment could be passed on through higher power bills, while some states and counties weigh rules and debate tax incentives.

Arthur Hayes: I just sold at a fair price as selling row follows bullish calls
BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes has come under criticism from on-chain investigator ZachXBT after unwinding positions in tokens he had publicly backed. ZachXBT questioned whether Hayes used investors as “exit liquidity” after Hayes sold holdings in NEAR Protocol, Hyperliquid’s HYPE, Zcash’s ZEC and Worldcoin’s WLD within a short period. Hayes rejected the allegation, saying he simply sold at a fair price to willing buyers.

Companies tighten AI budgets as model routing gains traction, pressuring OpenAI and Anthropic

Executives and boards are tightening oversight as AI bills outstrip budgets. Cognition CEO Scott Wu said cost efficiency can improve sharply on repetitive work. Glean CEO Arvind Jain estimated 95 percent of enterprise AI usage still runs on expensive frontier models.
