[DigitalToday reporter Yoonseo Lee] A warning has emerged that XRP could lose its status as a top 10 cryptocurrency by 2030 if it fails to build a presence in the real-world asset (RWA) tokenisation market.

On Oct. 20 (local time), blockchain outlet The Crypto Basic reported that crypto YouTuber ElliotTrades argued that XRP’s long-term competitiveness could weaken if Ripple and the XRP Ledger (XRPL) fail to expand real-world use of the network.

The key point is that Ripple’s business expansion does not directly translate into a rise in XRP’s price. ElliotTrades said that for XRP to remain competitive, companies and investors must participate in the network beyond bank partnerships, and real transactions must also increase.

He pointed in particular to stablecoins as threatening XRP’s position in international remittances. USDT and USDC may be more attractive for transferring funds because they have lower price volatility, he said.

He also said Ripple’s expanding partnerships are unlikely to translate into gains for XRP holders. Some institutions may use Ripple’s payment technology without transacting on XRPL. He stressed that Ripple’s business performance should be viewed separately from any increase in XRP’s value.

The area he focused on most was RWA tokenisation. This is a method of putting assets such as U.S. Treasuries, stocks and commodities on a blockchain for trading. According to the cited figures, RWA tokenisation across the broader blockchain market has exceeded $50 billion. He assessed that while networks such as Ethereum, BNB Chain and Solana are expanding their footprint, XRPL is lagging behind.

He also questioned XRPL tokenisation figures. Even if the scale of assets on the ledger is large, it is not sufficient if actual buying, selling and use are not active, he said.

He did not, however, conclude that XRP will fail. ElliotTrades stressed that to preserve XRP’s competitiveness, it should not rely only on global payments use cases or Ripple’s bank partnerships, but must demonstrate growth that leads to XRP demand and robust trading volume.

From a market perspective, the remarks focus on where to build XRP’s long-term demand base. They also raise the issue that XRP’s relative position could weaken if it fails to secure a foothold in new areas such as tokenised assets.

Ultimately, the key question is whether XRPL can produce visible results in RWA tokenisation and in boosting network transaction activity. As blockchain competition shifts from partnerships to real transactions and user bases, how much XRPL’s real-world use increases was presented as a variable that will determine XRP’s competitiveness.
