National supercomputer No. 6 to begin operation in December, researchers sought
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT is seeking researchers from industry, academia and research institutes ahead of the official launch of national supercomputer No. 6 in December. The ministry and KISTI will run a user call under a 2026 support programme from Sept. 9. Resources will be allocated across national strategy, R&D innovation and industrial innovation programmes. Applications for official service open on Sept. 28, with a pilot service planned from late October.

Korea shifts science and AI policy from strategy to results, focusing on pilots and commercialisation
South Korea\'s science and AI policy is moving from strategy-setting to producing results, with more emphasis on pilot projects and commercialisation, the Ministry of Science and ICT and other agencies said. Since the first ministerial meeting on science and technology on Nov. 24 last year, the government has held 12 meetings through Aug. 24. Early discussions centred on AI strategy and infrastructure such as GPUs, later shifting to R&D commercialisation, data policy, physical AI, agentic AI and autonomous-driving AI roadmaps.

ETRI to map out next 50 years with AI and DX, focus on national strategic technologies
South Korea\'s Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) will unveil a new AI-centred research and development vision and a national AI innovation strategy as it marks its 50th anniversary. ETRI said it will hold ETRI Conference 2026 on Sept. 1 in Seoul to review 50 years of ICT achievements and present R&D directions for an era of AI transformation. It also plans to concentrate on five priority fields including AI and physical AI.
