NIA holds Network Testbed Technical Committee meeting

The National Information Society Agency (NIA) said on June 8 it held its 2026 Network Testbed Technical Committee on June 5 with experts from industry, academia and research institutes. The committee focused on ways to draw up a roadmap to upgrade an international standards-based wireless network testbed, based on Delphi survey results conducted since its launch in September. It also reviewed plans for an open and intelligent RAN testbed for physical AI and proposed a phased approach to implementing an AI-native 6G testbed.

Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission to hold digital ethics creative content contest

South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission and the National Information Society Agency will hold the 2026 Digital Ethics Creative Content Contest through Oct. 2. The theme is \"Safe artificial intelligence (AI), shared digital ethics.\" The contest has two categories: awareness-raising content and learning content. Judges will select 25 winners. The top prize includes a presidential award and 2 million won in prize money.

NIA to push ahead with WiFi 7 rollout on city buses nationwide

The National Information Society Agency (NIA) and the Ministry of Science and ICT said on May 28 they will push ahead with introducing WiFi 7 to public WiFi on city buses nationwide to help passengers use stable, ultra-high-speed wireless internet. Bus public WiFi provides free service and is intended to reduce telecom costs and improve access to digital services. Data usage reached 75,777TB in 2025, nearly double 38,728TB in 2023.
