Cubrid, a South Korean database management system (DBMS) company, said on Tuesday it ranked second by market share in the public sector.

Cubrid cited the "2026 Government-wide EA-based Public Sector Information Resources Status Statistical Report" released by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the National Information Society Agency (NIA).

The report showed that as of end-2025, Cubrid took a 13.24 percent share in the public sector DBMS market, beating Microsoft to rank second. The ranking changed as Cubrid rose 2.66 percentage points while Microsoft fell 1.77 points.

Oracle, ranked first, maintained a 59.87 percent share in the survey. Its share fell 2.64 points from 62.51 percent in the previous survey, dropping below 60 percent.

Combined share for domestic products also increased. Among the top five suppliers, the combined share of South Korean firms Cubrid and TmaxData rose to 22.86 percent from 19.65 percent, topping 20 percent. Cubrid also said the report’s separately calculated DBMS localisation rate rose by about 4 percent from the previous year to 25.97 percent, or 5,399 units, from 22.03 percent.

Cubrid said it grew from 405 units, or 2.6 percent, in 2016 under the public sector information resources statistics survey criteria to 2,017 in the previous survey and 2,367 in the latest survey. It said the total increased by 350 units, or 17.4 percent, in a year, and grew 5.8 times compared with nine years ago.

Cubrid CEO Byeong-ju Jeong (정병주) said DBMS, along with operating systems, has been considered among the hardest areas to localise, and this was the first time a South Korean product ranked ahead of a foreign DBMS. "This is the result of accumulated product technology, tailored support and improved awareness," he said. "With 74 percent of public sector DBMS still foreign, we will focus on product innovation and expanding the user ecosystem in line with demand for legacy system replacement and cloud transitions," he added.
