Homegrown AI foundation model, GPU power and chatbot safety set to dominate 2026 parliamentary audit
South Korea\'s 2026 parliamentary audit is expected to focus on market results for a government-backed homegrown AI foundation model, plans to operate 260,000 high-performance GPUs and safety measures for AI chatbots, especially for children and teenagers. A National Assembly research report flagged issues including GPU power supply, overseas outflows of AI talent, AI literacy and youth protection. It said support has focused on technical development more than market entry.

LG Uplus to help bridge digital divide for multicultural families, single-person households
LG Uplus will work with the Korea Institute for Healthy Family to strengthen digital capabilities for digitally vulnerable groups, including multicultural families and single-person households. The company said it signed an MOU to expand digital education programmes run at some family centres this year to a nationwide level. The partners will offer smartphone and AI training, fraud-prevention education and other programmes, and provide equipment such as smart TVs and laptops.

South Korea to consider \'legal hacking\' to disable illegal spycam sites
South Korea is pushing a government-wide plan to disable websites distributing illegal spycam material by punishing operators and cutting off revenue sources such as advertising and accounts. It is also considering introducing so-called “legal hacking” that would allow investigative agencies to access crime sites directly to delete data or seize accounts. An analysis of 34,628 illegal sites found 6,683 still accessible, including 1,316 run in Korean or featuring Korea-related categories.
