Cross-government body launched to step up response to digital sex crimes

The Broadcasting Media and Communications Commission said on Monday it held a kickoff meeting for a cross-government consultative body on responding to digital sex crimes with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the National Police Agency and the Broadcasting Media and Communications Review Commission. The body is meant to cover prevention, investigations, blocking, and victim support. The agencies shared operating plans, discussed faster blocking and overseas illegal sites, and said the new chiefs-level forum will strengthen accountability and execution.

Google, Naver, Kakao to be required to pre-block illegal filming images from July

The Broadcasting Media and Communications Commission held a briefing session on June 4 to explain measures as preemptive technical and administrative steps to prevent the distribution of illegal filming content expand from video to images. From July 1, about 80 obligated operators must compare and identify whether user posts match videos or images judged as illegal filming content by the Broadcasting Media Deliberation Commission and restrict posting. The list includes Google, X, Meta, Naver and Kakao.

Kim Jong-cheol inspects implementation after abolition of mobile handset subsidy law, calls for clearer guidance

Kim Jong-cheol (김종철), chairman of the Broadcast, Media and Communications Commission, visited a mobile phone sales agency in Seoul to check how rules are being applied after the abolition of the Mobile Device Distribution Improvement Act. He went through the full purchase and contract process, including handset selection, plan and subsidy guidance, add-on services and paperwork. He said more user-friendly explanations are needed and urged operators to prevent unfair discrimination.
