Amazon rehiring former employees after cutting 30,000 jobs

Amazon is moving to rehire former employees who left during past restructuring, with renewed recruitment seen in technology areas such as Amazon Web Services, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Reports said recruiters have contacted alumni about openings and in some cases offered streamlined re-entry processes. Amazon also asked some former staff whether its return-to-office policy was a key reason for leaving. The company said boomerang hiring is long-standing and not focused on RTO departures.

Google to send four AI chips into space, first \'space data centre\' test set for Oct. 1

Google will launch a low-Earth orbit satellite on Oct. 1 carrying four Tensor Processing Units as the first orbital test under Project Suncatcher, aimed at building AI data centres in space. The company will test whether the chips can withstand launch forces, radiation and cooling limits in vacuum conditions. The satellite will run on about 1 kilowatt of solar power, operate for about a year and remain in orbit for up to six years.

BigValue holds meeting with National Data Agency to discuss AI-ready data-based AX

Data tech company BigValue held a meeting on Sept. 22 at its headquarters in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, with the National Data Agency to discuss an AI-ready data-based AI transformation (AX) strategy. National Data Agency chief Ahn Hyung-joon and Lee Sun-hee, head of the AI Statistics Innovation Division, attended. BigValue shared know-how on building and using AI-ready data and introduced AX processes, including public and financial sector cases and an AI real estate consulting agent service.
