Daytona raises funding at $1 billion valuation, says AI agents need cloud built for them

AI agent-focused cloud startup Daytona has reached unicorn status after securing a $1 billion valuation, TechCrunch reported on Oct. 23. The company raised $60 million in a Series B round led by FirstMark Growth, which also led a $24 million Series A in February. Total funding rose to $91 million. Founders and executives of tech firms joined as angel investors, alongside Qualcomm Ventures, Samsung Next and Octa Ventures.

Faster speed, questionable quality: Reviewing AI coding output

Generative AI has sharply reduced the time developers spend writing code, but a survey found it is also increasing review and maintenance burdens as low-quality code enters projects. Respondents estimated coding time fell by an average 52 percent after adopting AI, while maintainers judged 25 percent of incoming pull requests to be low-quality “AI slop.” The Linux Foundation urged stronger governance, clearer contribution rules and better tools.

OpenAI said South Korea ranks third globally in weekly active users of its AI agent Dots, and is in the global top five for ChatGPT Pro users. The company said it held an \"OpenAI DevDay Exchange: Seoul\" event at Raum Art Center in Seoul on Oct. 22, attended by more than 600 developers and industry participants. OpenAI also demonstrated Dots features and heard how AWS and LG CNS apply AI agents in business settings.
