Online custom parts manufacturing service Creallo said on Oct. 13 it has launched a free desktop 3D viewer, Creallo Atlas.

The company said Creallo Atlas supports opening 13 types of 3D design files, including STL, STEP and IGES, without a CAD program. It said the viewer allows users to measure dimensions, check cross-sections, inspect shapes and diagnose errors.

3D design files are used across departments including development, sales, purchasing and production, as well as by design teams. Commercial CAD programs can be difficult to use due to cost and the learning burden. Many free 3D viewers are web-based services, and may require uploading files to external servers, which can raise security concerns.

Creallo Atlas was developed to reduce such inconvenience and focus on linking product design to actual manufacturing, the company said. It said features such as file viewing, mesh editing and checking estimated manufacturing quotes can be used on a user's PC, and the software can be used not only on Windows but also on macOS and Linux.

Estimated manufacturing quotes checked in Creallo Atlas can be used as advance information to review actual production, and if production is needed, users can place an order directly through Creallo. Creallo plans to continue upgrading design analysis and cost prediction technologies by reflecting the needs of engineers and manufacturing sites, and to keep expanding functions that can be used in product development and manufacturing processes.

Creallo Chief Executive Hee-jung Kim (김희중) said, "Creallo's goal is to create the fastest path for every digital design to become a physical object." He said, "The free 3D viewer Creallo Atlas is the starting point, and we will continue to expand functions for various practitioners who handle design files and those responsible at actual manufacturing sites."
